Mahoney, Worthy Pace Cross Country at Battle in Beantown

BOSTON – The Brown University men's and women's cross country teams both posted top-five team finishes as the Bears competed at the Boston College Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday at Franklin Park. 

The women's team placed third out of 13 teams with 103 points, trailing only Providence College and Dartmouth, while the men's side took fourth out of 15 squads.

Senior Taylor Worthy (Medfield, Mass.) turned in an eighth-place finish as she completed the course in a time of 17:42. Rookie Jillian Turner (New Providence, N.J.) also posted a top-20 finish, as she placed 18th at 18:03. Sophomore Emma Sloan (Franklin, Tenn.) was 21st overall in a time of 18:09, while senior Lucy Van Kleunen (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Megan Ratcliffe (Carlisle, Mass.) rounded out the scorers in times of 18:12 and 18:23, respectively.

For the men's team, Matt Mahoney (Swampscott, Mass.) placed fourth in the 123-runner field with a time of 24:31. Andrew Foerder (Seattle, Wash.) also recorded a top-10 finish as he crossed at 24:42 for tenth place, while Ryan Anderson (Santa Rosa, Calif.) finished 25th in a time of 25:08.

Rookies Roman Drabchuk (Willowbrook, Ill.) and Gabriel Altopp (Ridgefield, Conn.) crossed the finish line in times of 25:09 and 25:15 to round out the men's scorers.

In the open race, rookie Jeremy Leary (San Anselmo, Calif.) topped the field with a winning time of 15:41, while fellow freshman Jacob Stanton (East Lansing, Mich.) placed third out of 135 runners with a time of 15:47.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 8 at the New England Championships at Franklin Park.
