PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University women's cross country team will travel to Princeton's West Windsor Fields for the 2013 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships this Saturday at noon. Each of the Ancient Eight will race twelve individuals as they compete for the conference title and for points to help qualify out of the regional meets to the NCAA Championships later in the season.
Under the guidance of Coach Mitchell Baker, the Bears placed third at the 2012 Heps with 93 points, falling just two points short of Princeton, who took second place with 91 points. Brown is in a good position to impress this year, coming off a first place team finish at the Rothenberg Invitational, during which they outran favorites Dartmouth, who are nationally ranked at No. 11.
Senior Heidi Caldwell (Hanover, NH) returns after an impressive season during which she earned fourth place overall at the 2012 Heps Championships. Last year, Caldwell was a First Team Cross Country All-Ivy selection and All-Region honoree, placing 21st overall at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. Junior Leah Eickhoff (Hanover, NH), who also competed at 2012 Regionals and finished fourth for the Bears at last week's Rothenberg Invitational, is another veteran racer who will return to the Windsor Fields. Sophomore Lily Harrington (West Hartford, CT) and junior Alexandra Conway (Manchester, NH) have both posted several strong performances this season and will also look to help the Bears take the title this year.
After Saturday's competition, Brown will have two weeks to continue to prepare for the Northeast Regional Championships, which will take place on Friday, November 15 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
