HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Heidi Caldwell (Hanover, N.H.) posted a top-10 finish as the Brown women's cross country team placed fifth at the Dartmouth Invitational in the season opener Saturday morning at the Hanover Country Club.
The Bears wrapped up the race with 141 points to finish behind Georgetown (46), Syracuse (54), Dartmouth (63) and Northwestern (107), but ahead of Bentley (163) and Keene State (196).
"Today was a nice opportunity for our younger athletes to gain experience," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tim Springfield. "Overall, I was happy with how they responded. We have a lot of work to do, but it was a solid opener."
Caldwell, who finished fourth overall at the Ivy League Championships last season, placed 10th in her hometown as she crossed the finish line of the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21:21.24.
Sophomore Kate Buss (Blacksburg, Va.) and Sophie Mateu (Simi Valley, Calif.) placed 49th and 51st, respectively, in times of 22:49.37 and 22:58.98 to round out the Brown scorers. In addition, junior Abigail Braiman (Horseheads, N.Y.) finished 65th at 23:58.19 and Kelsey Albright (Topsfield, Mass.) placed 68th in a time of 24:26.54.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they participate at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park.
