The Brown University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the New England Championships at Franklin Park this weekend. The women's squad finished 21st overall with 590 points in the 47-team field, and the men's team combined for 535 points for 23rd place. Both teams had some solid performances as the rookie runners gained some valuable experience that will help Bruno in meets to come.
Brown sophomore Michael Stumpf crossed the finish line first for the men's team, coming in at 25:25 for 31st place and senior Christian Escareno followed with a 25:39 for 47th overall. Brendan Boyle ran the course in 26:32 and freshman Peter Hix earned a time of 26:39. Rounding out the team was junior Ethan Hickey with a 26:41 and freshman Jess Bush with 27:43.
For the women, freshman Melanie Fineman earned Brown's top finish with a 19:07 for an 86th place, while Caitlin Stone (19:22) and junior Rachel Baker (19:25) followed behind. Next, Brown junior Emily Mepham crossed the finish line in 19:37, and freshman Jenn Thomas earned a 19:41. Next, freshman Megan Palmer (20:35) and sophomore Carolyn Ranti (20:39) rounded out the scoring for the Bears.
