PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown University has announced the hiring of Joe Linehan as its new head coach for both the men's and women's water polo teams.
The Executive Director and Head Coach for the Houston Water Polo Club since 2003, Linehan brings an extensive background to the Bears' water polo programs. During his time with the Houston Water Polo Club, Linehan has also served as the Executive Director of the Premier Water Polo Camps, in Houston, since 2001. Combined, he has worked with over 900 athletes, sending athletes in four different divisions and age levels to the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics in 2003.
For five seasons (1998-2002), Linehan served as the Head Water Polo Coach at the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. In addition to his duties with the water polo team, Linehan was also the Aquatics Director, an Assistant Coach for the men's and women's swimming teams, and a physical education instructor.
Since 1999, Linehan has been involved with US Water Polo, earning Northeast Zone Development Coach of the Year in 2002, and Southwest Zone Elite Coach of the Year in 2003. From 2000-2002, he served as the National Team Staff Premier League Head Coach. In 2003, Linehan was the Southwest Zone Delegate at the USA Water Polo National Convention, after serving as the Northeast Zone Delegate from 1999-2002.
Linehan was also the President and Head Coach for Big Apple Water Polo, Inc. from 2000-2002, founding the non-profit organization for the development of water polo in the greater New York City area.
A native of Texas, Linehan graduated from Texas A&M University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science. He is a USA Water Polo registered and certified coach, official, and athlete. Linehan replaces former coach Todd Clapper, who resigned in May to take a job in Nevada.
