New London, CT - The women's water polo team (14-11, 5-2) fell in the championship game of the Northern Division to Hartwick, 11-4, this afternoon at Connecticut College, in New London, CT. The Bears were able to advance to the championship game with a 15-3 victory over Connecticut College in the semi-final game earlier in the day.
In the semi-final victory the Bears had control for most of the match, having ten different players record a goal in the 15-3 victory. Leading the way for Brown was sophomore Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA) and freshman Alexis Blaxberg (Miami, FL) both netted three goals in the victory. Freshman Ally Wyatt (Ann Arbor, MI) added two goals of her own, while seven other Bears recorded a goal in the 15-3 win. Sophomore Caitlin Fahey (Seattle, WA) had a solid performance on both offense and defense dishing off three assists and recording three steals while senior Diana Livermore (Menlo Park, CA) and sophomore Claire Angyal (Sydney, AUS) each recorded two assists in the match. Freshman Anne Deggelman (Menlo Park, CA) had a strong performance in goal for Brown making five blocks and tallying three steals.
In the championship game, Brown was unable to overcome a first quarter shutout dropping to Hartwick 11-4. Sophomore Karlyanna Kopra (Kamuela, HI) recorded two of Brown's four goals while Livermore and Lansing each netted a goal in the loss. Kopra also recorded two steals while Livermore drew four ejections. Deggelman finished the match-up with five blocks.
The Bears will gear up for the Eastern Championships this upcoming weekend, at Indiana University. The tournament is held on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, with the Bears' opponents yet to be determined.
