New London, CT - Nine different players scored goals as the #20 Brown women's water polo team (10-13, 4-2 CWPA North) defeated Queens College (2-14, 2-5 CWPA North), 17-5, on Sunday at Lott Natatorium at Connecticut College. Freshman Margeaux Berroth (Rhododendron, OR) led the Bears with four goals in the win.
Two-meter forwards Alexis Blaxberg (Pinecrest, FL) and Joanna Wohlmuth (Manhattan Beach, FL) had three goals apiece, while junior Rory Stanton (Danville, CA) had a pair. Five other players scored single goals in the rout.
Up 9-1 at the half, the Bears were able to coast the rest of the way. Sophomore Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI) had six saves in picking up the win.
On Tuesday, Brown will close its regular season when it hosts Harvard (10-9, 3-3 CWPA North) at Wheaton College's Balfour Natatorium on Tuesday. Positioning for the Northern Division Championship, although mostly certain at this point, will technically be on the line in the game. With a win, the Bears will clinch second place, placing them in a day one pool with third seed Connecticut College and sixth seed Utica College, who they beat by a combined score of 31-12. A loss by less than eight goals would also be enough for second, although Harvard would take the third seed. Only a Harvard blowout by nine or more goals would knock the Bears down to third.
At Tuesday's game, the Bears will also honor their three seniors, Blaxberg, Emily Schwartz (Miami Beach, FL) and Roxanne Palmer (Los Alamitos, CA). Gametime is 8:30 p.m., and a fan bus will leave the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center at 7:45 p.m. for anyone interested in attending the contest.
