Ann Arbor, MI - The women's water polo team (7-6) finished the first day of the Michigan Invite dropping to host Michigan 8-3, and #9 Indiana 4-2, but defeated California Lutheran 9-5, this afternoon. Senior Diana Livermore (Menlo Park, CA) recorded a goal in each game finishing the day with three goals.
In their first game against host Michigan, the Bears found themselves outscored in each quarter 1-0, 3-1, 3-2 and 1-0. In the third quarter the Bears scored two quick goals to cut the lead to 7-3, but that would be it for Brown having Michigan score the lone goal in the final quarter. Recording the Bear's three goals in the game was Livermore, freshman Ally Wyatt (Ann Arbor, MI) and sophomore Caitlin Fahey (Seattle, WA). Livermore also earned three steals and drew three ejections while Fahey and Wyatt tallied four steals and three steals in the loss. Freshman Anne Deggelman (Menlo Park, CA) racked up four blocks in net for Brown.
Behind freshman Roxanne Palmer's (Los Alamitos, CA) three goals, the Bears rebounded in the second game defeating Cal Lutheran. Also recording goals for the Bears was freshman Emily Schwartz (Miami, FL) who netted two while, Livermore, Wyatt, freshman Alexis Blaxberg (Miami, FL) and sophomore Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA) each recorded one goal in the win. Freshman Sade Bonilla (Berkeley, CA) and Blaxberg drew two ejections while Wyatt recorded two assists for Brown. Deggelman finished the game with eight blocks in goal to preserve the win.
In their final competition of the day the Bears went toe-to-toe with Indiana who is ranked ninth in the country. Brown could not overcome an early four-goal deficit having their come back in the fourth cut short. Livermore and Wyatt recorded the two Bear goals while Blaxberg and Balassone each drew two ejections. Deggelman stood strong in net tallying ten saves for the Bears in the loss.
Brown will have an early 8:00 AM (CT) match-up with Michigan State and will return to the pool for their final competition in the Invitational taking on LMU at 1:00 PM (CT).
