Utica, NY - The women's water polo team (5-3) finished the weekend falling to Hartwick 18-8, and defeating Queens 21-6. Freshman Anne Deggelman (Menlo Park, CA) was tested all afternoon and rose to the challenge finishing with eleven blocks this afternoon.
In their first match against Hartwick the Bears started of slow, getting outscored 6-1 and 6-2 in the first half. Senior Diana Livermore (Menlo Park, CA) and sophomore Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA) each netted two goals for Brown. Livermore also drew five ejections in the match while, sophomores Claire Angyal (Sydney AUS) and Elizabeth Balassone (Los Altos, CA), and freshmen Alexis Blaxberg (Miami, FL), and Ally Wyatt (Ann Arbor, MI) recorded a goal apiece. Deggelman recorded five blocks in net and tallied three steals for the Bears in the loss.
In the second game of the day for the Bears, freshman Sade Bonilla (Berkeley, CA) led the offense scoring four goals, dishing out four assists and drew three ejections against Queens. The Bears outscore Queens in all four quarters 5-1, 6-2, 6-1, and 4-2. Also scoring four goals was freshman Emily Schwartz (Miami, FL) while senior Evan Gill (San Diego, CA) and sophomore Karylanna Kopra (Kamuela, HI) recorded three goals. Kopra also tallied three assists in the win. Wyatt, Angyal and freshman Roxanne Palmer (Los Alamitos, CA) added on two goals while Blaxberg finished the match with a goal to round out the scoring for Brown. Deggelman made six saves in net for the Bears to preserve the win.
The Bears will travel to the University of Michigan next weekend, where they will compete in the Michigan Invitational taking on host Michigan, Cal Lutheran, Indiana, Michigan State, and LMU. Brown will open the weekend up Saturday, March 19, at 9:30 AM when they will face host Michigan, and later take on Cal Lutheran and Indiana for 3:15 PM and 6:20 PM match-ups.
