PROVIDENCE, RI - The women's water polo team cruised past its competition at the Brown Invitational, going 2-0 to 6-2 on the season. The Bears defeated St. Francis (15-1) and Iona (9-7) on Saturday, and also defeated NYAC (7-6 in overtime) in an exhibition match.
Against St. Francis sophomore Allison Biner (Moraga, CA) led Brown with three goals, while freshman Claire Angyal (Sydney, Australia), junior Diana Livermore (Menlo Park, CA), and freshman Elizabeth Balassone (Los Altos, CA) each added two goals. Freshmen Caitlin Fahey (Seattle, WA), Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA), and Meredith Daniels (Naperville, IL), and seniors Jackie Parente (Los Angeles, CA), Sonia Lamel (Lafayette, CA), and Heidi Wendt (Danville, CA) each scored one goal for the final 15-1. Fahey led Brown, drawing four kick-outs, while Livermore and Balassone each drew two. Senior Jeanie Ward-Waller (San Antonio, TX) recorded three steals, while senior Keira Heggie (Miami, FL) stopped four shots in net.
Against Iona senior Lauren McGeoch (Cupertino, CA) led Brown with three goals, while Livermore and Ward-Waller added two. Biner and Parente each scored one goal, while Heggie made three saves in net.
The Bears continue action on Saturday March 13th, when it travels to Harvard to take part in a League Tournament.
