Princeton, NJ - In a hard fought thirty four minute battle, the Bears (1-2) were unable to find the back of the net in the second overtime, falling to Bucknell 11-9, at the Princeton Invitational. Freshman Rory Stanton (Danville, CA) put the Bears ahead 8-7 late in the fourth quarter, but the Bisons knotted the game at eight with eleven seconds to go sending the game into over time.
Junior Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA) opened up the scoring at the 5:58 mark, cashing in on a four meter penalty shot, for her first of three goals in the match. Bucknell scored forty eight seconds later to knot the game at one. Lansing put the Bears back up by one, when she fired an outside shot past the Bison's goalie for a 2-1 lead with forty seconds to go in the opening quarter. Bucknell came back again and tied the score at two with nine seconds to go.
The Bears were able to out score the Bison 3-0 in the second quarter to build a 5-2 halftime lead. With Brown on a six on five, junior Karlyanna Kopra (Kamuela, HI) netted the Bear's for goal of the quarter with 5:28 to go for a 3-2 score. With Brown ahead 4-2, after a Lansing's third goal of the game, junior Caitlin Fahey (Seattle, WA) tallied Brown's fifth goal of the game with 1:57 to go in the second.
Bucknell came firing back in the third, fighting back from four down to cut the score at 7-6 at the end of three. Brown was able to jump out to a 7-3 lead on goals from sophomore Alexis Blaxberg (Miami, FL) and junior Elizabeth Balassone (Los Altos, CA) with four minutes to go in the quarter.
After the Bears and Bison exchanged goals in the fourth quarter to send the game into over time, Bucknell built a 9-8 lead late in the extra period. Junior Claire Angyal (Sydney, AUS) forced the game to a second overtime when she put a shot in the back of the Bison's net with fifty seven seconds remaining in the first overtime. But it was all Bucknell in the second three minute period, as the Bisons tallied two goals and shut out the Bears for the 11-9 final. Sophomore Anne Deggelman (Portola Valley, CA) made five stops in net for the Bears.
Brown will close out the Princeton Invitational, tomorrow afternoon when they face host Princeton for a 12:15 p.m. match-up.
