Women’s Water Polo’s Dakan Gains CWPA Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Brown University women's water polo junior goalkeeper Marisol Dakan has earned CWPA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Apr. 10-16, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced on Wednesday.

A native of Pasadena, Calif., Dakan tallied 40 saves, a .541 save percentage, and a 5-meter save last week. She posted 13 saves, including a 5-meter block, against No. 14 Indiana on Friday. She made 12 saves and allowed just three goals in a 9-3 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday.

No. 6 seed Brown (19-8, 3-5 CWPA) opens play at the 2017 CWPA Championship with a quarterfinal match-up against No. 3 seed Hartwick (22-9, 6-2 CWPA) on Friday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Indiana University's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center in Bloomington, Ind.

During the 10-year tenure of head coach Felix Mercado, the Bears have now posted a winning record for the seventh time, and with a win at the CWPA Championship, Brown will post its sixth 20-win season under Mercado.
