PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND - The ACWPC All-Academic Awards were released on Tuesday, and the Brown women's water polo team averaged a 3.39 GPA to rank fifth in the country. Additionally, the team placed 13 student-athletes on the list of honorees, as each was granted with an All-Academic award. Wagner earned the top ranking with a 3.50, followed by Chapman University (3.46), Macalester (3.46) and Indiana University (3.371).
"This is a great way to wrap up our 2013 season," said head water polo coach Felix Mercado. "It is wonderful to have so many members of our team being recognized for their hard work in the classroom. It is also very impressive to be the top Ivy."
The ACWPC honors varsity and club student-athletes who have achieved a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and competed during the 2013 season. Brown's top academic performers, rising junior Evan Cranston (Palo Alto, CA) and rising seniors Malaika Drebin (Palo Alto, CA) and Sarah Presant (Poway, CA), earned Outstanding honors for maintaining a GPA between 3.71 and 4.00. Graduating senior Kayla Stormont (Hilo, HI), rising sophomore Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, CA) and rising seniors Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) and Carly Wellington (Lake Oswego, OR) earned Superior honors with GPAs between 3.41 and 3.70. Finally, six Bears earned Excellent accolades, as their GPAs fell between 3.25 and 3.40, including rising junior Chloe Kempf (Laguna Hills, CA), rising junior Emily Klein (Pleasanton, CA), graduating senior Katharine Booher (Palo Alto, CA), rising sophomore Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, CA), rising junior Liz Rosen (San Anselmo, CA) and rising senior Raquel Louis (Wellington, FL).
