Woods and Pepper Earn CWPA Southern Division First Team Honors

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – Two members of the Brown women's water polo team (15-19, 5-3 CWPA) have been named to the 2013 CWPA Southern Division All-Conference Team in a vote by the league's head coaches. Junior Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) and sophomore Madison Pepper (Baytown, TX) each earned first team accolades for their performances during the 2013 season. The awards were presented to the student-athletes at Thursday evening's CWPA Eastern Championships banquet.

Woods, the 2011 Southern Division Player of the Year, is making her third appearance on the Southern Division first team. She currently ranks second for Brown in scoring with 50 goals and is the team leader in assists, dishing out 58 helpers over the course of the season. Defensively, her 83 steals are a team high. Additionally, her 36 ejections drawn put her second on the team. She has been the Bears' leading scorer in nine contests this season, notching a season-high five goals on April 13th in a 12-7 win over Mercyhurst in the CWPA Southern Division Championships.

Pepper, the Bears' leading scorer with 69 goals, earns first team accolades for the second consecutive season. A driving force behind Brown's offensive play, she also ranks sixth on the team with 15 assists. On the defensive side of the ball, she has made 41 steals, putting her fourth on the team. She also leads Brown in ejections drawn, registering 37 this season. Pepper has been the team's leading scorer in ten different games, contributing a season-high five goals on four different occasions, including a 16-12 win over Harvard in the CWPA Southern Division Championships on April 13th.

After finishing second at the 2013 CWPA Southern Division Championships, Brown will take on Connecticut College on Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm in its first game of the CWPA Eastern Championships.
