Poughkeepsie, NY- The Brown University women's water polo team improved to 2-0 at the Marist invite with a thrilling 7-5 victory over the No. 9 ranked Michigan Wolverines on Saturday evening at McCann Natatorium.
The Bears used stifling defense to take down the Wolverines and picked up nine steals and combined for 10 field blocks as a team. Brown jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Michigan, but the Wolverines outscored the Bears 3-1 to head into halftime with the score tied at 3-3. But the Bears came out and edged Michigan 2-1 in scoring in both the third and fourth quarters, as freshman Rebecca Zak hit the goal with just 1:50 left in the game to put Bruno up by two, to seal the victory.
Kate Woods and Katharine Booher led the Bears in scoring with two goals apiece, while Booher added four steals and four field blocks. Madison Pepper, Zak and Liz Rosen each netted one goal as Evan Cranston led the defensive with 10 saves in net.
