Cambridge, MA- The Brown women's water polo team earned wins in their first two league games after defeating George Washington 9-6 and Mercyhurst 13-4 in games hosted at Harvard on Saturday afternoon.
Against GW, the Colonials jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first two quarters, but the Bears outscored GW 5-2 in the third and 3-0 in the fourth to earn the win.
Freshman Madison Pepper, Liz Rosen and Sarah Presant each tallied two goals to lead the offense, while Brittany Westerman and Katharine Booher added one apiece. Leading the defense was freshman goalkeeper Evan Cranston, who picked up four saves in the cage.
Against Mercyhurst, Presant knocked in five goals to lead the Bears to their nine-goal victory. Brown gained a 7-2 lead by halftime and outscored its opponent 6-2 in the final two quarters to secure the 13-4 win.
Rosen and Pepper added three goals to the offense, while Emily McNamara pitched in with two. Cranston tallied five saves in three quarters of play in the cage, and sophomore Sarah Shin came in for relief and earned two saves.
The Bears will now play San Jose State at 9 a.m. on Sunday, and Princeton at 2:40 p.m.
