Lewisburg, PA- The Brown women's water polo team started the Bucknell Invitational 2-0 with victories over Gannon and Bucknell on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. Brown defeated Gannon 20-6, and went on to edge the Bison 8-7.
Against Gannon, the Bears jumped to a 6-2 lead after the first eight minutes and extended the lead to 13-4 by halftime. The Bears continued to dominate outscoring Gannon 7-2 in the final two quarter to come away with a 20-6 win.
Leading the offense was Emily McNamara and Gusty Clarke with four goals apiece, while Samantha Ryu, Madison Pepper, Sarah Presant and Kate Woods each added two. Adding to the offense was Kayla Stormont, Kristi Munoz, Katharine Booher and Liz Rosen with one goal each.
Against the Bison, Bucknell gained a 2-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Bears came out with a big second quarter outscoring the Bison 4-1 to head into halftime with a 5-3 lead. Both squads netted one goal in the third, and Bucknell edged Brown 3-2 in the fourth, but the Bears still came out with the win, 8-7.
Leading the offense was Woods and Presant with two goals, while McNamara, Pepper, Rosen and Ryu added one apiece. Cranston led the defense with 10 saves in the cage.
