Providence, RI- Freshman Kate Woods was named the CWPA Southern Division Player and Rookie of the Week while both Sarah Shin and Claudia Ruiz earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after victories over Utica and Connecticut College this weekend in the final two regular season games of the 2011 campaign.
The honor marks the fifth and sixth times Woods has earned a weekly award from the CWPA league office as she previous notched the April 4 Player of the Week award along with the Feb. 28, March 28, April 18 Rookie of the Week awards.
In a 2-0 regular season concluding weekend for the Bears she posted four goals versus Connecticut College in a 12-2 victory, before taking on a pair of markers in a 14-6 defeat of Utica.
Ruiz and Shin combined for 15 saves over two games to share honors as Co-Defensive Players of the Week. The duo helped the Bears upend host Connecticut College and Utica College in the final two regular season games of the 2011 season.
Against Connecticut, Shin made four saves in three periods of work, before giving way for a four-save performance by Ruiz in the fourth period. The duo wrapped up the weekend as Shin stopped three shots and Ruiz turned aside four scoring attempts versus Utica.
