Providence, RI- Brown University freshman Kate Woods combined for 13 goals, two assists, three steals and three ejections drawn in four games at the University of Maryland to garner the April 18 CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week award.
This marks the fourth time Woods has earned a weekly award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association league office this season, as she previous notched the April 4 Player of the Week along with the Feb. 28 and March 28 Rookie of the Week awards.
Her best game of the week came in Brown's most important contest as she tallied six goals, an assist, a steal and an ejection drawn to help the Bears down George Washington 12-10 to clinch consideration for the No. 7 seed for the CWPA Eastern Championship.
Woods tacked on two goals and two ejections drawn in an 11-6 loss to No. 13-ranked Indiana University, in addition to contributing a goal, two steals and a field block in a 6-5 loss to No. 17 Princeton. Woods wrapped up the weekend with four goals and an assist in a 13-10 loss to the University of Maryland to raise her team-leading totals to 78 goals and 18 assists on the year.
The Brown water polo team is back in action at 8 p.m. on Wednesday when it takes on Harvard at Wheaton College. The Bears will also be honoring their three seniors – Joanna Wohlmuth, Rita Bullinkel and Katherine Stanton prior to the match.
