San Diego, CA- The Brown women's water polo team lost its last two games to San Diego State (17-6) and UC San Diego (11-9) yesterday afternoon as Brown nears its last day out on the west coast. Freshman Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) led Brown's offense in both games combining for eight goals, and freshman Sarah Shin (Fullerton, CA) led the defense with 11 saves.
Against San Diego State, the Aztecs bolted out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Bears were able to outscore the Aztecs 3-2 in the second to cut their deficit to three at the intermission. But the Aztecs continued to roll and combined for 10 goals in the final two quarters while allowing Brown to just two goals to earn a a 17-6 win.
In game two against UC San Diego, the Tritons gained a 4-1 lead after the first eight minutes, and went into halftime with a 7-4 lead. UC San Diego edged Brown 4-2 in the third, but the Bears shut down the Tritons in the fourth, 3-0, but it wasn't enough to earn the win, falling 11-9.
Woods led the scoring with five goals, followed by Stanton with two and both Katharine Booher and McNamara with one. Shin picked up five goals in net.
The Bears will end its west coast trip this afternoon when Brown takes on Fresno Pacific and Arizona State hosted at San Diego State.
