Cambridge, MA- The Brown University women's water polo team (1-4) fell 15-5 to Harvard University last night at Blodgett Pool in both teams' Collegiate Water Polo Association opener.
Harvard jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first eight minutes of play and went on to shut out the Bears in the second quarter, 4-0, to lead 9-1. The Bears settled down in the third and matched the Crimson in scoring with three goals, but were outscored in the fourth, 3-1, en route to a 15-5 Harvard victory.
Freshman Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) led Brown's offense with two goals, while senior Katherine Stanton (Danville, CA) knocked in two. Rookie goalkeeper Sarah Shin (Fullerton, CA) picked up nine saves in the cage to lead the defense.
The Bears are back in action this weekend at the ECAC Championship (Feb. 26-27) hosted at Bucknell.
