Providence, RI- Brown University's Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor,
MI) made 43 saves to lead the No. 18-nationally ranked women's
water polo team to a 3-1 record at the Princeton Invitational to
earn the Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Lauren Presant (Poway, CA) scored 16 goals on the weekend,
including eight in a 13-11 loss to the Tigers to lead the division
in goals to be named the Northern Division Player of the Week.
Laing started the weekend by making 12 saves in an 8-2 victory over George Washington before posting 15 stops in a 15-4 win against Gannon University. Laing then added nine saves and an assist in Brown's 14-11 victory over Iona College before wrapping up the Bears' four games with seven saves in a 13-11 loss to host and No. 20 Princeton University.
Laing concluded the weekend with a 7.5 goals against average and .589 save percentage as Brown improved to 5-1 on the season. Laing now has 758 saves, including 63 this season, as she is 19 shy of surpassing Keira Heggie '04 for the all-time record.
Presant netted a pair of markers in Brown’s win against George Washington University and scored a goal in its victory against Gannon. She then went on to net five tallies against Iona College and followed it up with scoring eight against the Tigers, which included five during Brown’s 5-2 fourth-quarter run.
