Brown junior Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) and senior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) were named were named to the 2006 All-Ivy Volleyball Team on Tuesday, as selected by the league's coaches. Lapinski was named to the league's first team, while Baldwin was given second team honors.
Lapinski, who was recently named the Bears' captain for next season, led the Ivy League with 5.68 digs per game. That mark was more than .75 digs per game higher than the next closest player, and ranked her 21st in the country. Her digs-per-game average, as well has her 528 total digs for the season, was good for second all-time at Brown. Lapinski tied a personal best with 40 digs on Oct. 27 at Columbia, third-best all-time for a Brown player. She also tied a career high with an average of nine digs per game against Texas-San Antonio in the second match of the season, totaling 27 digs in three games. That mark is the fifth-best in a single match at Brown. Her career average of 4.47 digs per game is .62 higher than any other Brown player. Lapinski also moved into fourth on Brown's career digs list this season with 1,203 for her career, putting her 558 digs behind all-time leader Tomo Nakanishi '00. Last season, she was an All-Ivy honorable mention. She was named to both the UNH Tournament and USD Invitational All-Tournament Teams.
Baldwin had a career-high 307 kills this season, playing a modified right side/outside hitter position. She became the sixth Bear to break the 1,000-kill barrier on Oct. 27 against Columbia, and is sixth all-time with 1,076 career kills. She set a personal best with 26 kills in her final match on Nov. 11 against Dartmouth, and also set a personal best with 13 digs twice -- Sept. 8 against New Hampshire and Oct. 21 against Penn. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the USD Invitational this season.
