Providence, RI - Head coach Diane Short has named Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) as the volleyball team captain for the 2007 season. The junior libero led the Ivy League with 5.68 digs per game - more than .75 digs higher than the next closest player.
"Katie is one of the toughest kids I've ever coached," Short said. "She has incredible focus and desire to win. She has great leadership abilities as well."
Lapinski's 5.68 digs per game average was good for 21st in the country at the end of Brown's season. She also made her mark on the record books with her performance this fall. Both her digs-per-game average and 528-dig total were the second-highest at Brown all-time. After just three seasons, Lapinski worked her way up to fourth on the Bears' career digs list at 1,203. She will likely move into at least second all-time in 2007, and she is just 559 digs from Tomo Nakanishi '00, who sits in first at 1,762. Her most impressive statistic may be her 4.47 digs-per-game average for her career, which is .62 digs higher than any other player on Brown's list.
