Brown Records First League Win

The Brown University Volleyball team records its first league win as they surpass Yale in five long games. The Bears dropped the first two games but rallied back to win the final three. The first game ended at 32-30, the second and longest game of the evening went to Yale with a score of 45-43 the final three games were Brown's at 30-26, 30-20 and 16-14.

It was a record setting night as senior Jessie Cooper (Tustin, CA) had 22 kills moving into fourth place on the all-time leader board for career kills with 940 passing Mary McCains who has 936. Also moving into the Brown record books was freshman Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) who is now tied for fifth with Aimee Bower in match assists with 73.

Senior Ceneca Calvert (Irvine, CA) recorded her fifth straight double double with 16 kills and 21 digs. Also recording a double double was freshman Karalyn Kuchenbecker (Los Angeles, CA) who added 19 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) recorded 13 kills on only 18 attempts and senior co-captain Angela Dunn (Katy, TX) also added 13 kills.

Sophomore Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) contributed 12 digs as junior Kim Highlund (Newark, CA) and freshman Leigh Martin combined for 18 digs a piece. The Bears' next action is in the Brown Invitational as they host Towson at 10:00 a.m. and Iona at 6:00 p.m. Saturday October 5 in the Pizzitola Gym.
