Bears Set to Host Brown Invitational; All Matches to Be Video Streamed Live

Sept. 21, 2007

Providence, RI - The Brown volleyball team will play its first home matches of the 2007 season this weekend, as it hosts the Brown Invitational. Stony Brook, Central Connecticut State, and Portland will serve as the Bears' competition over the two-day event. All six matches of the tournament will be video streamed live on by B2 Networks.

The Bears enter this weekend with a 1-5 record after playing at the Hurricane Invitational at the University of Miami and the UAlbany Classic. They are once again led by senior captain Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL), who leads the Ivy League by a healthy margin with 5.81 digs per game. If she continues that pace, Lapinski has a shot to become Brown's all-time leader in digs by season's end.

The team's freshmen have given the squad a big boost, particularly outside hitter Megan Toman (Newport Beach, CA). Toman leads the Bears and is third in the Ivy League with 3.80 kills per game. Fellow first-year Danielle Vaughan (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), a middle blocker, had a breakout weekend in Albany, finishing with 10 blocks in as many games to lead the Bears.

Also among the Ivy leaders are senior middle blocker Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL), who is sixth with a .292 hitting percentage; junior setter Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA), who is fourth with 9.81 assists per game, and junior right-side hitter Lillie Cohn (Seattle, WA), who is sixth with an average of 0.48 service aces per game.

The action begins today at 4 p.m., as Central Connecticut State takes on Portland.
