Providence, RI - The Bears exploded on offense, having five different players post double-digit kills, including junior Lauren Gibbs' (Los Angeles, CA) season high 29 kills in tonight's loss to Harvard, 3-2. Bruno came out strong taking the first game 34-32, but Harvard would win the next two, 31-29 and 30-26 taking a 2-1 lead in the match. The Bears pulled themselves together and won game four, 30-26 forcing a deciding game five, where the first place Crimson came out on top, 15-13 giving them match, 3-2.
Gibbs had her best performance of the season in tonight's match, earning a .295 hitting percentage and blocking a match high seven of the Crimson's attacks. Also contributing to the Bears offense was sophomore Liz Cvitan (Malibu, CA) tallying 14 kills, giving her a .333 hitting percentage, while classmate Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) recording 13 kills in tonight's match. Junior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) spread the ball out evenly for the offense, handing out 75 assists and posted 15 digs on defense, giving Martin a double-double for the night.
Freshman Rachel Lipman (San Diego, CA) had a solid performance on defense, grabbing 20 digs while senior Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) turned in 21 digs for the Bears. Freshman Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) was all over the net, blocking five and killing ten sets sent her way.
Brown will return to action tomorrow, November 6, in its final home match of the 2004 season, facing the Big Green of Dartmouth, for a 4:00 start.
