New York, NY - For the fifth time in six matches, the Brown volleyball team (7-14, 5-6 Ivy) defeated an Ivy League opponent, this time toppling Columbia (3-20, 0-11) in four games, 30-26, 30-28, 27-30, 30-27, on Saturday afternoon. Four Brown players recorded double-digit kills, and four had double-digit dig totals in a great team effort that led to the win.
Freshman outside hitter Megan Toman (Newport Beach, CA) tied for the match high with 19 kills, while junior outside hitter/defensive specialist Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) and junior right-side hitter Lillie Cohn (Seattle, WA) had 15 kills each, with Yess adding 12 digs. Senior middle blocker Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) had 12 kills, while junior Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) finished with 60 assists, 10 digs, and four block assists while setting the offense.
Senior libero Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) led the Bears with 20 digs, with senior defensive specialist Rachel Lipman (San Diego, CA) adding 16. Freshman middle blocker Danielle Vaughan (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) had a match high with six total blocks, one solo.
Next weekend, the Bears' hot streak will be put to the test. Brown will host the Ivy League's top two teams, first-place Princeton (19-3, 11-0) and second-place Penn (16-7, 9-2), on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both matches will start at 4 p.m.
