Hanover, N.H. - Senior captain Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) had a team-high 44 assists along with five kills and 10 digs on Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the Bears fell 3-1 to the Dartmouth Big Green to open their weekend road trip. The loss moves Brown's record to 11-10 overall, with a 3-6 Ivy mark, while Dartmouth moves to 7-12, with a matching 3-6 league record.
Dartmouth came out firing in the first game, and ran out to an early lead en route to a 25-13 victory, using the comfort of being on their home court to its full advantage. The Big Green hit an impressive .593 for the game, executing their offense almost flawlessly.
The second set saw a marked turnaround, however, as the Bears fought their way back into the match, with a close, tough second game. After holding it even for most of the game, Brown was able to pull out a 25-23 win to even the match at one game apiece, and looked to have perhaps gained control of the momentum.
Despite Brown's best efforts, however, Dartmouth came back strong once again in the third set, and held off the Bears for a 25-21 win, and a tough 2-1 lead in the match. The Big Green finished off the match in the fourth, again pulling off the 25-21 victory, and knocking off the Bears for the second time this season.
Sophomore Megan Toman (Newport Beach, CA) also had a strong individual game for the Bears, leading the team with 16 kills and a .429 attack percentage, and adding seven digs. Classmate Brianna Williamson (Cincinnati, OH) and senior Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) were key components of the offense, notching 15 and 12 kills respectively.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they continue their Ivy League weekend trip at Harvard at 4 p.m.
