Bears Fall To First Place Big Red, 3-1

Providence, RI - Seniors Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) and Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) both reached Brown milestones in their careers, but were unable to defeat the Big Red, falling to Cornell 3-1, this afternoon at the Pizzitola Center. Gibbs notched 1,000th career kill in the 30-18 game one loss, while Martin became Brown's all-time leader in assists mid-way through the first game, passing Corre Myer '01 who finished her career with 4026 assists. Martin currently has 4061 in her four year career.
Gibbs lead the Bears offensively, recording 14 kills while junior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) finished the match with 13 kills. Martin posted 38 assists including 12 that went to sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) in today's loss.
Defensively Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) had a career high 36 digs while junior Victoria Kasten (Norwalk, OH) recorded 12 digs for Brown. Junior Jessica Kondrick (San Diego, CA) had another strong performance at the net for Brown, recording a team high six blocks for the Bears.
The Bears will return to action on Friday, November 4, when they host Pennsylvania for a 7:00 PM Ivy League match-up.
