Volleyball Drops Hard Fought Match Against Penn, 3-2

Philadelphia, PA - The volleyball team (7-12, 4-4) was defeated by the University of Pennsylvania (11-8, 4-4), 3-2 this evening at the Palestra in Philadelphia, PA. Brown fought back after a game one loss 30-24, winning game two 30-21. The two squads exchanged games Penn winning the third 30-26 and Brown taking the fourth 30-28, but the Quakers pulled out the victory winning the fifth, 17-15 in a hard fought offensive battle.

Leading the way for the Bears offensively was junior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) posting 18 kills, while sophomore Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) and freshman Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) each added 13 kills to the Brown's offense. Freshman Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) recorded a double-double on the night posting 11 kills and ten digs. Junior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) directed the Bears offense with 54 assists while recording 10 digs earning herself a double-double.

Defensively senior Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) had a match high 23 digs while freshman Rachel Lipman (San Diego, CA) tallied 15 digs in tonight's loss.

The Bears will return to action 4:00, Saturday, October 30, when they will travel to Princeton for a crucial late season Ivy League match up.
