Volleyball Sweeps Columbia In Crucial Conference Match-Up

Providence, RI - The volleyball team (8-11, 5-3) overcame a slow start to come back and take a 30-27, game one victory from the Lions (5-12, 3-4) setting the tone for the rest of the match, as the Bears went on to sweep Columbia, 3-0. In a see-saw game three, junior Shawn Tulac (Claremont, CA) gave Brown the 35-33 victory, slamming down her ninth kill of the night, for the game winning point.

Offensively senior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) posted a match high 13 kills while sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) tallied nine kills recording a match high .304 hitting percentage. Senior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) recorded her 4,000th career assist in the 30-20 game two victory, and finished the night with a double-double on 40 assists and 13 digs.

Defensively junior Jessica Kondrick (San Diego, CA) and Mandolini-Trummel stood strong up front, recording six blocks each. Sophomore Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) finished the match with 21 digs while Tulac recorded 11 digs in the win.

The Bears will continue action Saturday, October 29, when they will host Ivy League leader Cornell at 4:00 PM.
