Volleyball Sweeps Columbia

Providence, RI - The volleyball team (6-10, 3-2) swept the visiting Lions of Columbia University (2-16, 0-6), this afternoon at the Pizzitola Center in front of a stellar crowd. The Bears snapped a two game skid with today's victory, game scores 34-32, 30-22, and 30-21.

Offensively junior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) had 12 kills for a .212 hitting percentage against the Lions. Sophomore Liz Cvitan (Malibu, CA) recorded 13 kills while, classmate Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) and freshman Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) each added eight kills for the Bears' offense. Sophomore Jessica Kondrick (San Diego, CA) posted a match high .375 hitting percentage in this afternoon's victory.

Junior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) spread the ball out evenly with 44 assists and earned nine digs for Brown's defense. Senior Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) turned in another brilliant performance grabbing a match high 23 digs. Sophomore Victoria Kasten (Norwalk, OH) had a solid game tallying eight digs.

The Bears will embark on a two week road trip Friday, October 22, where they will compete with Dartmouth University for a 7:00 match.
