Providence, RI - In a see-saw five game battle, the Bears (5-10, 2-2) bounced back from an early one game deficit to defeat the Big Green (9-6, 2-3) 3-2, this evening at the Pizzitola Center on Brown's Campus. In a balanced attack, having four hitters record double digit kills, senior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) dished out 61 and recorded 13 digs for a double-double in tonight's victory.
Junior Shawn Tulac (Claremont, CA) led the game five offensive charge for Brown, knocking down four consecutive kills, leading the Bears to a 15-13 victory. Tulac finished the night with 21 kills while classmate Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) also posted 21 kills. Senior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) racked up 14 kills in the win.
Junior Jessica Kondrick (San Jose, CA) and Gibbs were a force defensively at the net, both recording seven blocks, while Mandolini-Trummel tallied five. Sophomore Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) was all over the floor posting 35 digs, while junior Victoria Kasten (Norwalk, OH) had 16 digs on the night.
The Bears will host Harvard in their second Ivy League match-up of the weekend, facing the Crimson tomorrow, October 15 at 4:00 PM.
