Providence, RI - The volleyball team (5-8, 2-0) defeated the visiting Princeton Tigers (10-4, 1-1) at the Pizzitola Center this evening, notching their fourth win in five games. The Bears came out strong, winning the first two games 30-27 and 30-24, before losing the third game 30-25. Brown took the fourth in a nail-bitter, 30-28, giving Bruno the match and the win.
Senior Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) continues to break Brown records, shattering most digs in a match with 49 in tonight's match. Kung broke the old record 38, which she set back on September 11th when the Bears faced UC Davis.
Junior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) distributed the ball evenly, dishing out 55 assists, and having four hitters with 10 or more kills. Martin also recorded 15 digs for a double-double in tonight's victory. Classmate Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) controlled the Bears' offense tallying 22 kills, and earning a .372 hitting percentage. She helped out defensively with four blocks.
Sophomore Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) was right behind Gibbs with 16 kills while, freshman Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) recorded another double-double with 10 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Liz Cvitan (Malibu, CA) guarded the net with five blocks and seven kills.
The volleyball team will return to action Saturday, October 9th, for their second Ivy League match of the weekend, when the Bears take on the University of Pennsylvania in a 4:00 match.
