Providence, R.I. - The Brown volleyball team (8-6) dropped its second consecutive match to Yale (8-3) on Saturday night, falling 3-0 in the second league game of the season. Sophomore Brianna Williamson (Cincinnati, OH) led the way for the Bears, recording five kills, seven digs, and a block.
A night after losing a tough match at home against the Bulldogs, Brown came out looking for revenge. Yale hung tough on their home court, however, and after letting Bruno hang in the first game at 11-7, the Bulldogs went on a strong run, ultimately winning the first set 25-12. It was more of the same to begin the second set, with Yale taking an early 11-3 lead. Brown came storming back to close to within 22-18, but couldn't maintain the charge as Yale went on a 3-0 run to close the set 25-18. With their backs against the wall, the Bears played their best game of the match, and hung tough, trailing only 19-18 late in the match. Once again, however, Yale showed its ability to finish, and closed out the match with a 25-19 win.
Senior setter Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) provided solid play for Brown, notching a team-high 26 assists and six defensive digs. Freshman libero Annika Gliottone (Warwick, R.I.) also helped keep the Bears in the match by tallying a team-leading ten defensive digs.
The Bears will be in action again on Friday, October 10, when they will play Ivy rival Harvard at the Pizzitola Center.
