Volleyball Falls to Yale, 3-0, in Ivy League Opener

Oct. 4, 2003

Brown Volleyball fell in disappointing fashion to Yale on Friday night 30-22, 30-27, 30-26. After a challenging pre-conference campaign, the young Bears were looking forward to the beginning of the League season. In the second and third games, Brown had substantial leads, but was unable to sustain them.

There were some excellent individual performances on the evening - Sophomore Karalyn Kuchenbecker (Los Angeles, CA) led the team with 17 digs and pitched in four aces, sophomore Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) was the offensive leader with 13 kills, and sophomore setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) put in another very solid performance with 39 Assists, 8 digs, and 5 kills.

Senior Libero Kim Highlund (Newark, CA) is poised to enter the Brown record books. With 15 digs against Yale, she is just six short of becoming fifth in career digs. That will likely occur October 11th at Princeton. What's more, Highlund is just 48 digs shy of 1000, a mark which will also probably be achieved while the team is playing on the road.

The Bears face back-to-back away weekends, starting with a 7:00 match at Princeton on Friday, October 10.
