Volleyball Outlasts Stony Brook Getting Clinching 15-13 Game Five Victory

Providence, RI - In a see-saw five game battle the Bears (3-8), came away victorious, winning a decisive game five 15-13, giving Brown their second win of the day, at the Brown Invitational this evening at the Pizzitola Center. Senior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) moved fourth all-time in career aces, recording four aces in today's victories over Manhattan and Stony Brook, for her current total of 83.

Besides the serving line, Martin also helped the Bears offensively, spreading out her 73 assists evenly to give four Brown hitters double digit kills. Junior Shawn Tulac (Claremont, CA) led the Bears recording a double-double in this evening's match posting a team high 22 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) tallied 21 kills, while senior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) and junior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) recorded 19 and 14 kills in the match-up.

Defensively it was an all-around effort, led by sophomore Lizzie Laundy (Evanston, IL) who finished with 23 digs, while classmate Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) recorded 21 against the Seawolves. Martin's 19 digs gave her a double-double on the evening while freshman Natalie Meyers (Huntington, CA) racked up 15 digs.

In the early match of the day #18 Santa Clara defeated Stony Brook 3-0. Shortly after tonight's match the Brown Invitational All-Tournament Team was named, having Anna Cmaylo from Santa Clara named as the MVP. Other members of the team were:
