Bears Drop Two Games in Final Day of Competition At The Northwestern Invitational

Evanston, IL - The volleyball team (0-7) fell to host Northwestern 30-10, 30-24 and 30-13 in their early match and later swept by Southern Illinois 30-24, 30-17 and 30-21 in the final day of competition at the Northwestern Invitational.
In the match against Northwestern the Bears couldn't get anything going offensively. Junior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) led Brown with eight kills while sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) finished with five kills. Senior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) recorded 20 assists in the loss.
The Bears looked to regroup in the second match, but were overcome by Southern Illinois. Mandolini-Trummel recorded nine digs for a match high .533 hitting percentage while junior Jessica Kondrick (San Diego, CA) finished with seven kills and a team leading four blocks. Martin dished out 25 assists and tallied nine digs on the defensive side. Sophomore Lizzie Laundy (Evanston, IL) finished with nine digs in the match.
The Bears will return to action on Wednesday, September 21, when they travel across town to take on in state rival University of Rhode Island for a 7:00 PM match.
