Poughkeepsie, NY - The Brown volleyball team (1-4) dropped their opening match of the Marist Tournament to Delaware 3-1 (23-30, 30-27, 27-30, 26-30) on Friday. The Bears had three different players post double digit figures in the lose to Delaware.
Sophomore Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) continued her offensive surge and recorded 19 kills giving her a hitting percentage of .471. Junior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) directed the offense with 44 assists, while freshman Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) recorded 10 kills.
Ivy League Player of the Week Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY), looks to continue her defensive dominance in the country, posting 30 digs in the match. Lapinski added 10 digs giving her a double-double, the first of her collegiate career.
In the second match of the day, Brown earned it's first win of the season, defeating Holy Cross, 3-1 (23-30,30-18,30-18,30-23). The Bears rebounded from a game one loss, winning the rest of the games in commanding fashion.
Junior Leigh Martin(Freelton, ONT) led the Bears, earning her second double-double of the season with 55 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) added 19 kills to the Bears' total offense.
Senior Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) led Brown defensively, posting 20 digs in the victory.
The Bears are currently 1-1 in the tournament and take on host Marist tomorrow, September 18th, at 10:00 am in their final match of the tournament.
