Providence, R.I. - Senior Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) led the Brown volleyball team (4-1) to an impressive win against Providence College (6-6) on Tuesday night, as the Bears swept the Friars. Yess led the team with 13 digs and a .636 hitting percentage, and tied for second on the team with eight kills.
Brown wasted no time in jumping out to an early lead, jumping out to a 10-5 lead before ripping off a 15-5 run to take the first set 25-10. The Bears recorded an eye-opening .655 team hit percentage in the first game, while holding Providence to only four kills in 22 attempts. The Friars fought hard in the second game, closing the gap to 21-16 late in the set, but were ultimately unable to find an answer for Bruno, and fell 25-18.
The two teams briefly traded points evenly at the beginning of the final set, but Brown was able to pull out an 8-2 run to take a 12-6 lead which they would never relinquish, going on to once again win by a score of 25-18. For the match overall the Bears hit an impressive .396, while holding Providence to only .122, improving their Ivy League-leading mark.
Senior captain Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) was once again the table-setter for the Bears, leading the team with 31 assists and chipping in five digs and one kill. Freshman Annika Gliottone also continued her impressive debut season, finishing second on the team with 11 digs, as well as two assists and one service ace. Sophomore Brianna Williamson (Cincinnati, OH) also played well, leading the team with 11 kills and adding six digs.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday night during opening action at the Brown Invitational, when they will play Stony Brook College at 7 p.m.
