Albany, NY - Freshmen Megan Toman (Newport Beach, CA) and Danielle Vaughan (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) continued their strong weekends, as the Brown volleyball team (1-5) dropped a pair of matches to Eastern Michigan (8-5), 3-1, and Albany (7-5), 3-0, to close out the UAlbany Classic. Senior libero Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 5.20 digs per game in the Bears' three matches.
Against Eastern Michigan, Brown was able to tie the match 1-1, taking the second game 30-27 after losing the first 30-24. The Eagles rolled in the third game though, 30-17, and took the victory with a 30-27 win in game four.
Lapinski had 28 digs in the four games to lead all players. Toman led the Bears with 19 kills, with junior Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) turning in an 11-kill performance after missing much of Friday night's match. Junior setter Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) had a double-double, adding 12 digs to her 43 assists. Vaughan had four blocks after finishing with five the previous evening.
Later in the day, the Bears squared off with the host Great Danes. Brown came closest in the first game, falling 30-25, 30-23, 30-19. Vaughan became the first Bear to lead the team in kills other than Toman, hitting .556 with 10 kills and no errors on 18 attempts. Lapinski led Brown with 15 digs, while Meyers had 33 assists.
Next weekend, Brown will make its home debut when it hosts the Brown Invitational. The Bears will host Portland, Central Connecticut State, and Stony Brook.
