Bears Fall To No. 16 Ohio To Open USD Invitational

San Diego, CA - In its first game at the USD Invitational Friday, the Brown volleyball team (1-3) fell in three games to the 16th-ranked Ohio University (7-2) Bobcats, 30-24, 30-20, 30-20. The Bears turned in what the coaching staff called an "overall good performance," however, as five players finished with 10 or more digs.
Offensively, senior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) led the way with a match-high 14 kills, followed by senior co-captain Shawn-Elyse Tulac (Claremont, CA) with 11. Defensive specialist Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) led the team with 13 digs, Baldwin and sophomore Natalie Meyers (Huntington, CA) had 11 digs, and junior Rachel Lipman (San Diego, CA) and sophomore Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) had 10 apiece. Junior Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) had five blocks, and Meyers had 31 assists.
Brown's second game will be at 4 p.m. Pacific time against the University of California, Santa Barbara.
