Volleyball Drops Two At Opening Day Of UConn Tournament

Storrs, CT - The volleyball team (0-2) struggled this afternoon in the opening day of the UConn tournament, falling to UNH 3-0 (31-29, 30-23, 30-27) in the opening match and later host UConn 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-17). Senior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) led the Bears offensively recording nine kills against UNH and 11 in the match-up with UConn.

In their first match of the day, the Bears dropped a hard fought game one to the Wildcats 31-29, and could not get back on track, losing the next two. Senior Shawn Tulac (Claremont, CA) turned in eight kills, while junior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) finished the match with five kills.

Defensively junior Victoria Kasten (Norwalk, OH) posted ten digs, while Jessica Kondrick (San Diego, CA) tallied three blocks.

Against UConn, Brown could not find a rhythm offensively, falling to the Huskies in three straight sets. Tulac, sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) and freshman Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) each tallied five kills in the loss. Senior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) dished out 28 assists for Brown.

Kondrick was the Bear's force defensively at the net recording a team high four blocks.

The Bears will look to rebound tomorrow, Saturday, September 10, as they take on Manhattan College at 10:00 AM and wrap up the tournament later, against Seton Hall at 6:00 PM.
