Carey Braun
Position: Assistant Coach
Carey Braun is in her fifth season at Brown, coming to the Bears after one year as a student assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island and three very successful seasons as an outstanding hitter for the Rams. She has been instrumental to Brown's success in the last four seasons, working tirelessly with the varsity hitters, and also coaching the junior varsity squad.

Despite an injury-riddled playing career, Braun was a clutch hitter for the Rams, finishing second on the team with 370 kills in 1995. She finished with 780 kills in her career, and her match-high was 26 versus Mississippi State. A co-captain in 1995, she led the squad to a 30-8 record and a final four NIVC appearance. She was also named to the 1995 Rhode Island Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Her biggest strength as a player was hitting, having an inherent anticipation of blockers and the ability to hit the open spot. For the Bears, Braun assists Short with on-court coaching, recruiting, travel arrangements, and strength and conditioning; virtually every aspect of the program.

She graduated from URI in December 1996 with a degree in Physical Education. A native of Tonawanda, New York, Braun in single and resides in Cranston, Rhode Island. She continues to play competitively, as an open USVBA player.
