PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Katie Reifert, the head women's and men's volleyball coach at Illinois Tech from 2014-18, and Aubrey Marsellis, the director of volleyball operations at Florida State from 2016-17, are set to join the Brown University volleyball staff as assistant coaches, Brown first-year head coach Ahen Kim announced on Wednesday.
Reifert guided the Scarlet Hawks' women's program for four seasons and the men's team for three seasons after becoming the first head coach in the history of Illinois Tech men's volleyball. Reifert led the Illinois Tech women's team to back-to-back appearances in the USCAA National Championships in 2016 and 2017, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2016. She mentored five USCAA All-Americans as well as the 2017 USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year.
"I am excited to begin coaching the Bears and cannot wait to get to work," Reifert said. "I am thankful to Coach Kim for believing in my abilities, and I am ready to help him set a foundation for the program's student-athletes to meet their full potential both on the court and in the classroom."
Prior to arriving at Illinois Tech in August of 2014, Reifert was the lead assistant coach for Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball for the 2013 season. As a four-year starter at middle hitter for George Washington University, Reifert earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 as a senior before graduating in 2011. She played professionally in both Finland and Switzerland.
Marsellis worked with FSU during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, helping the Seminoles make a pair of appearances in the NCAA Championships, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 2016. During her time at FSU, Marsellis performed a variety of functions in support of the program in areas including analytics, social media graphics, travel logistics, business operations, recruiting, and camp organization.
"I am looking forward to starting at Brown and grateful to Coach Kim for giving me this opportunity," Marsellis said. "Brown is a tremendous institution, and I am eager to help build a program that celebrates the total student-athlete experience."
As a coach, Marsellis served as the head coach of the U18 team at Prostyle Volleyball Academy in Florida from 2016-18, leading the team to a top-10 finish at AAU Nationals. As a player, she competed for four seasons at Austin Peay State University from 2012-15, starting for three years as both an opposite hitter and a setter. She graduated from Austin Peay in 2016 and earned a master's degree from Concordia University Irvine in 2017.
"Both Katie and Aubrey bring tremendous experiences here to Brown, and I know that they will both play critical roles in developing our program and its student-athletes," Kim said.
Kim will enter his first season as the Bears' head coach in 2018 after helping lead American University to five straight Patriot League titles and three NCAA tournament wins in the last five years as an assistant coach.
