    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball Head Coach Diane Short has announced the four incoming members of the Class of 2018 who will join the Bears roster this coming fall: Melissa Cairo (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo School), Chaney Hart (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Xavier College Prep), Casey Tierney (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) and Shirin Tooloee (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty).
  • Derrough, Lord Named to All-Ivy Volleyball Teams

    PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown volleyball senior Thea Derrough (La Jolla, Calif.) landed on the All-Ivy League First Team and junior Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) played her way onto the Second Team, it was announced when the League office unveiled the annual volleyball award winners on Thursday.

    PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bears saw their four-match win streak severed by Princeton in a 3-0 setback (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) in the Brown volleyball team’s Ivy League regular season finale at Dillon Gym on Saturday. With Harvard’s win over Cornell, Brown finishes tied for third place in the Ivy League standings with Penn for the team’s highest finish since 2005. The Bears conclude the 2013 campaign with a 12-13 overall record and 8-6 showing in league play, which marks the squad’s most overall wins since 2008 and most Ivy victories since 2005.

The Bears stand at 11-12 overall and 7-5 in league play, leaving the team one victory away from its first 12-win season since 2008 and in position to post its first winning Ivy League record since 2005.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Cornell (7-13, 3-7 Ivy) and Columbia (5-14, 3-7 Ivy) are due to arrive at the Pizzitola Sports Center for Brown volleyball’s last Ivy League regular season home series which puts the Bears in position to fight for their best overall win total since 2008. With a record of 9-12 overall and 5-5 in Ancient Eight play, Brown has already matched its best win total in three seasons, and victories over the Big Red on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Lions on Saturday at 5 p.m. would leave Brown just one win shy of the 12-win mark the squad posted over five years ago.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Amanda Nickel (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) swatted 18 kills, nine of which came in the last two sets, to help the Brown volleyball team endure a 3-2 decision (25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 20-25, 15-13) over Cornell in Ivy League action at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday evening. The Bears improve to 10-12 overall and 6-5 in Ivy League play to exceed five league wins for the first time since 2005. The Big Red falls to 7-14 overall and 3-8 in the Ancient Eight, while victories for Harvard and Penn keep the Bears locked into fourth place in the Ivy standings.
  • Conner Named to Volleyball Capital One Academic All-District Team

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball junior Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) was named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® Volleyball First Team as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced on Thursday. Conner, an economics concentrator with a 3.85 grade point average, becomes the first Bears volleyball player to collect All-District® honors since Brianna Williamson ’11 and moves on to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot.

Junior Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) crushed 18 kills to help the Bears win its third-straight five set decision and snap a 12-match losing streak against the Tigers, dating back to Brown’s last win over their league foe on Oct. 20, 2006. Brown improves to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in Ivy League play, matching the team’s win totals from last season in both categories with 10 matches left to play.

Derrough once again shared the nod as the league’s top performer with Yale sophomore Jesse Ebner. Senior Amanda Nickel (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) joined Derrough by landing on the Weekly Honor Roll with a team-best 2.93 kills per set.

The Bears, winners of three of their last four contests, improve to 3-5 overall, while the Pride drop to 7-5 on the season.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fresh off a 2-1 showing at last weekend’s Brown Invitational tournament, the Brown volleyball team (2-5 overall) takes to Philadelphia for three matches at the Temple Invitational between Friday and Saturday. Brown’s third tournament of the season pits the Bears against Hofstra on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by Saturday matches versus Delaware State at 10 a.m. and Temple at 1 p.m.
