Bears Down Cross-City Rival PC in Straight Sets

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Volleyball team opened its home schedule in impressive fashion, downing cross-city rival Providence College in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-13). Sophomore outside hitter Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) led the way for the Bears, registering a match-high 11 kills to push Bruno back to .500 on the young season.

Brown (3-3) owned the net for much of the night, totaling 6.5 team blocks and 13 total blocks, with senior co-captain Kathryn Glickman (San Francisco, Calif.) and sophomore middle Taylor Bantle (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) leading the way with three each.

Providence (1-13) was able to stay with Brown to begin the match but the Bears quickly used its depth to wear down the Friars. PC was led offensively by Kelly Ashmore who had 10 kills.

The Bears got sold hitting efforts from junior Thea Derrough (La Jolla, Calif.) and Bantle as each totaled nine kills. Sophomore libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Fla.) led the way defensively yet again with a match-high 18 digs.

Junior setter Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) continues to show an all-round game filling the stat sheet with two kills, a service ace, five digs and a block in addition to her team-high 19 assists.

Bantle added four service aces to her impressive marks in blocks and kills, while hitting a match-high .500 percent on 18 attacks.

Brown hits the road this weekend, traveling cross-country to California for the Cal-State Fullerton Invitational.
