New Haven, Conn. – In its second game of the Yale Invitational, Brown Volleyball took on Big East foe, Villanova, but was topped in straight sets (22-25, 18-25, 14-25). Sophomore Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) once again led the Bears in kills, tallying 11, but Bruno could not overcome a strong Wildcat attack in the defeat.
For the second-straight game, Brown (2-3) took on a Wildcat opponent, and despite staying right with Northwestern on Friday night, the Bears could not keep pace with the impressive hitting of Villanova (5-4). Nova tallied 46 kills to Brown's 37 and hit .289 to Bruno's .208.
Villanova did an excellent job of setting up their attacks, tallying 44 assists in the match, 36 coming from Emma Pettit. Junior Bear Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) had 22 sets of her own, but Brown found itself 10 behind in the team column at the end of the game.
Three Wildcat players registered double-digit kills in the match while Lord was the only player for Brown to tally over nine.
Sophomore libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) once again paced the Bears with 16 digs.
Second-year middle Taylor Bantle (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
After a close first set in which the Bears were with the Wilcats late before eventually falling by just three points, Villanova found its grove, holding Brown under 19 points in each of the next two sets.
Brown will have its home opener this coming Wednesday, September 12, when they take on cross-town rival Providence College.
