Kathryn Conner Named to Volleyball All-Ivy Team
Brown University libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, CA) has earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy in a vote conducted by the league’s eight head coaches. The sophomore makes her first appearance on the All-Ivy team, joining twenty other players from around the league.

Brown Plays Four Exciting Sets Against Harvard, Falling, 3-1
In the final match of the 2012 season, the Brown women’s volleyball team went toe-to-toe with the Harvard Crimson for four exciting sets before falling, 3-1. The final set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 27-29, but even those do not illuminate the closeness of the contest, as the equally matched squads battled for every point. The outcome solidified both teams’ records for the season, dropping the Bears to 7-17 (3-11 Ivy) and improving the Crimson to 10-16 (7-7 Ivy).

Brown Blows by Dartmouth in Three Sets
The Brown University women’s volleyball team (7-16, 3-10 Ivy) played to a three set win over Dartmouth (2-21, 1-12 Ivy) Friday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears struck early, with aggressive play from the start of the first set, and continued to deny Dartmouth any chance of a comeback as they controlled the match from start to finish.

Brown Suffers Tough Loss at the Hands of Penn, 3-1
In their last road contest of the 2012 season, the Brown women’s volleyball team took an early lead, winning the first set, but were unable to carry the momentum as they fell to the Penn Quakers, 3-1. Tonight’s loss drops the Bears to 6-16 (2-10) on the season, while Penn improves to 13-10 (8-4 Ivy League).

Several Bears Post Match-High Numbers in Brown's 3-0 Loss to Princeton
The Brown University women’s volleyball team (6-15) came to Princeton, New Jersey ready to fight on Friday night, loosing their match with the Princeton Tigers (12-9) in three, hotly contested sets. Princeton is currently battling for the Ivy League title, sitting in second place in the standings, making the Bears’ performance all the more impressive.

Brown Falls to Columbia, 3-0
A night after picking up its first Ivy League home victory, the Brown volleyball team could not find an answer for the Columbia Lions, falling 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 17-25). Megan Gaughn led the way for the Lions, totaling a match-high 13 kills. Brown received a solid performance off the bench with 19 assists from rookie setter Rachel Killian (Laguna Beach, Calif.).

All-Around Effort Leads Brown Over Cornell, 3-1
The Brown volleyball team returned to the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday, taking on Ivy League rival Cornell and enjoyed its home confines in a 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 25-23, 25-20) victory over the Big Red. It was an all-around effort that led to the win as six players each tallied four-plus kills while the Bears totaled nine service aces in their first home, conference win of the season.

Brown Topped at Ivy-Leading Yale
Taking on the reigning Ivy League champions, who are undefeated in conference play this year, Brown volleyball fell to Yale in straight sets (21-25, 21-25, 22-25). The Bears were able to math up defensively with the Bulldogs as they equaled the Bulldogs in blocks and managed to out-dig the Eli’s 64-62, with sophomore libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) posting a match-high 17 digs. But in the end Yale kept hitting to push past Brown.

Princeton Trumps Brown, 3-0
The Brown volleyball team could not overcome Princeton’s hitting duo of Lydia Rudnick and Leah Jordan on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center, as the Tigers topped the Bears, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14). Bruno was led by sophomore Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.), who posted a team-high 11 kills

Bears Fall to Penn, 3-1
The Brown volleyball team (5-11, 1-5) fell to Penn (9-8, 4-2) in four sets (21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 20-25) on Friday evening at the Pizzitola Center. Brown was led by junior Amanda Nickel (Corona Del Mar, CA) and sophomore Brittany Link (Hinckley, OH), who each had 10 kills, while Link had a team-high .226 hitting percentage.

Brown Downs Dartmouth in Straight Sets
The Brown volleyball team got back on the winning track on Saturday night in New Hampshire, downing Dartmouth in straight sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-21). The Bears were lead by the attacking duo of sophomore Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) and senior Katrina Post (Pasadena, Calif.) who each finished with double-digit kills.

Harvard Tops Brown Volleyball, 3-0
The Brown volleyball team matched up well with Harvard on Friday night, staying close in kills, but the Crimson found the edge defensively, totaling 15 blocks as the Bears fell, 3-0 (19-25, 12-25, 21-25).

Brown Blasts In-State Rival URI, 3-1
The Brown volleyball got back on the winning track on Wednesday night, returning to the Pizzitola Sports center where they defeated in-state rival Rhode Island, 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17). Sophomore outside hitter Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) led the way for the Bears with a match-high 15 kills.

Bears Fall to Cornell, 3-1
Three Cornell players tallied double-digit kills Saturday night at Cornell as the Big Red topped Brown volleyball, 3-1 (13-25, 20-25, 27-25, 20-25). For the third-straight match sophomore outside hitter Amanda Nickel (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) tallied 10-plus kills, leading the way for the Bears with 11.

Lord’s 18 Kills Not Enough as Brown Falls to Columbia
Sophomore outside hitter Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) had a match-high 18 kills in Manhattan on Friday night, but Columbia was able to overcome the Bears, winning 3-2 (26-24, 24-26, 25-20, 17-25, 7-15). Brown totaled more kills, digs and assists than the Lions, but Columbia was able to withstand a slow start to win the last two sets to secure the victory.

Bears Go Toe-to-Toe with Reigning Ivy Champs; Fall to Yale, 3-1
The Brown volleyball team played its first Ivy League contest of the 2012 season while celebrating its “Dig Pink!” day, taking on the defending champs, Yale. The Bears got off to a slow start but took the Bulldogs to a 26-all tie in the second set. Bruno then won third before falling in another set that went past the 25-all mark. Yale improves to 5-5, 1-0 on the season while the Bears fall to 3-7, 0-1 in the 3-1 (15-25, 26-28, 25-20, 25-27) contest.

Brown Hosts Yale in "Dig Pink!" Match
The Brown volleyball team starts its Ivy League schedule on Saturday, September 22 with a matchup against the Yale Bulldogs. The match will have special significance as it will be the squad's "Dig Pink!" match.

Brown Falls In Day Two of Cal Sate Fullerton Invite
In its second game of the Cal State Fullerton Invitational, Brown ran into a hot-hitting Santa Clara team and was topped, 3-0 (17-25, 14-25, 21-25). In their final contest of their West Coast road trip, the Bears ran into big San Diego State squad that controlled the net for much of the match in an eventual 3-0 (11-25, 14-25, 12-25).

Brown Topped By Host Cal State Fullerton in First Game of CSF Invite
Brown played another tough road game on Friday evening, this time nearly 3,000 miles away, competing in the Cal State Fullerton Invitational. The Bears took on the host Titans in their first matchup of the tournament and were topped, 3-0 (28-30, 15-25, 18-25).

Bears Down Cross-City Rival PC in Straight Sets
The Brown Volleyball team opened its home schedule in impressive fashion, downing cross-city rival Providence College in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-13). Sophomore outside hitter Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) led the way for the Bears, registering a match-high 11 kills to push Bruno back to .500 on the young season.

Brown Volleyball Falls to Villanova at Yale Invitational
In its second game of the Yale Invitational, Brown Volleyball took on Big East foe, Villanova, but was topped in straight sets (22-25, 18-25, 14-25). Sophomore Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) once again led the Bears in kills, tallying 11, but Bruno could not overcome a strong Wildcat attack in the defeat.

Match-Highs Not Enough as Brown Falls to Undefeated Northwestern
Brown volleyball racked up individual match-highs in kills in digs against undefeated Northwestern in the first game of the Yale Invitational on Friday night, but could not overcome Wildcats, falling in 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 21-25). Sophomore Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) led all players with 12 kills, while classmate and libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) posted a game-high 18 digs.

Brown Downs Central Connecticut at CCSU Invite
Brown Volleyball improved to 2-1 on the young season, defeating host Central Connecticut, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14), in the final game of the CCSU Invitational. The Bears also took on St. John’s, but fell 3-0 (18-25, 16-25, 22-25). Junior setter Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and sophomore libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) were named to the All-Tournament team.

Bears Begin Season with 3-1 Win Over Holy Cross
Junior Emma Pastore (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the way for the Brown Volleyball team on Friday night as the Bears opened the 2012 season at the Central Connecticut State Invitational against Holy Cross. Pastore racked up a match-high 18 kills to lead three Bears in double-digit kills as Brown defeated the Crusaders 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14).

Brown Volleyball Opens 2012 Season at CCSU Invite
Head coach Diane Short and the Brown volleyball team return to game action on the court this weekend at the Central Connecticut State Invitational to open the 2012 season. It is one of two tournaments the Bears will compete in this year in addition to its Ivy League schedule and in-state rivalry games against Providence College and Rhode Island.

Brown Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award
Brown was among 535 teams nationwide that earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 season. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
